Our MSP group has recently completed deploying Meraki access points to a Vegas downtown apartment complex. The client had 2 main issues with the existing Cisco AP setup. One was that the tenants frequently overloaded the network. The other issue was that some tenants used file sharing applications causing the ISP to issue notices of copyright infringement.
The implementation exceeded the customers expectation. After an initial survey 2 AP locations where chosen and the access points were deployed. A policy to disallow P2P sharing was implemented. An additional policy was implemented to limit concurrent network usage to 1 Mbps per user. A brief burst above 1 Mbps does result in a positive user experience during web browsing. However, long downloads or video streaming will be limited to 1 Mbps to allow all users access to the network equally.
